Web map services show Russia fires
As Muscovites choked under blankets of thick smoke in the first week of August 2010, web map services (WMS) from NASA showed the extent of wildfires across western Russia. The view above in the Gaia SDI Platform was made today using web map and feature services from NASA, NOAA, CIESEN and CubeWerx.

This is the way to go, open standard APIs for the mapping services. You were probably able to just connect Gaia to them to make the example above, right?

Correct, just connected Gaia to the WMS and WFS. I wasn't aware of the scope of the fires till I did - pretty incredible.
